NOTE THE FOLLOWING HOUSE RULES:
Before starting a fire outside, you must check the NS Burn Ban site to see if it is legal. Fines are up to $25,000
If you have pets coming:
• Pls bring poop bags and clean up after your pet. As a mushroom forager, it is greatly appreciated that you don’t just send your dogs off into the woods to poop. Please pack out what you pack in.
• Bring a bed or blanket for your pets comfort. Pets are not allowed on the bed.Indoor / Outdoor Fires:
• There is firewood / kindling in a drawer under the woodstove. Paper and birch bark to the right of the stove. Instructions and safety precautions on the table via a laminated note.
• For outdoor fires, split wood is available under the shelter in the parking lot. There are also piles of brush and cut wood along the site / trails you are welcome to burn. I can also drop off wood to you if needed. Do not burn the wood stove wood (in the drawer) outside.
• Please do not rip birch bark off the trees to start fires, take from the ground only.
10 Frequently Asked Questions
Is the water potable? Yes. The water provided to this cabin is potable. Please note that this cabin does not have its own running water, but it does have a draining sink and plenty of water will be in the cabin for you to use upon arrival, with a source for more if needed.
Are you pet friendly? Yup! Check out the policy around pets. 1 dog max for this cabin.
Is it on or near the ocean? Very close! You are a safe distance from the ocean and located at the trail head to some of the prettiest trails. Following them will bring you along the coastline for quite some time, with multiple benches for watching the sunrise with Cape Smokey in the distance.
Coffee situation? There are pour overs for on top of mugs. Filters. Coffee beans, coffee grinder provided. Black and herbal tea provided. Sugar provided. Loose tea kettle provided.
Are there pots and pans? This kitchen is limited and a step up from camping. There is an electric skillet in this cabin but I recommend bringing your own propane camping burner or relying on the BBQ for your meals. Propane is provided. Dishes and cutlery etc. provided.
Is there electric heat? There is a small back up heater provided in the winter, main source of heat is the wood stove.
Can I get more wood for the wood stove? If you are here for 2 nights or less, there is enough wood provided to you for that length of time in the cabin. Use the damper.
3 nights or more: I will deliver extra wood to you anytime you need.
Are there bugs? I do not suffer with bugs as much as other locations in Nova Scotia due to the constant breeze / proximity to a windy cliff, but yes, there are always going to be bugs in the woods. I do not have a problem with ticks, and have found less than a handful over a span of over a decade. The cabin will have some bug spray but pack according to your needs if mosquitos or black flies bother you a lot, and please bring an EPI pen if you have major allergies to stings.
What about archery lessons? All lessons are booked ahead of time with Jay during June-October. Favorite way to be contacted is by text: 902 233 4750. Check out the pricing.
Can I have an outdoor fire? Yes! Anytime. There is a communal fire pit by the shelter in the main lot with wood under it if you need more for your pit. In the summer mostly, you need to check to see if this is legal by going to the Government Burn Ban website. If it is legal to burn, go for it. If you need more wood, text Jay.
