Special Winter Pricing

Though the work to manage cabins increases significantly in winter, I lower my prices to attract local visitors and encourage staying on the island. Lower prices also help when the common perception of the Cabot Trail in the winter is that it is rugged and difficult.

It can seem like an arduous trek to get all the way out here but I actually have an extremely low rate of weather-related disruptions and cancellations. I have found the plowing of the Cabot Trail well managed over the years, and my own tractor has come in handy getting guests in and out despite the weather. There has not been a winter emergency yet that I cannot solve by being flexible with my guests during bad weather, as well as by being prepared and well-maintained.

why come here in the winter?

To me, the adventure is heightened ten fold in the winter. You are sharing some of our most amazing outdoor locations with very few people. You are forced to come prepared with the luxuries and because of that, they are even more luxurious and special. Restaurants for example are mostly closed at this point, but you can bring a camping burner anywhere and heat up a premade meal or hot coffee to perfection while looking out at some of the most stunning views.

The careful thought and planning that goes into living a rural life becomes a necessity in your vacation. I think working to survive instead of surviving to work is what human beings need more than doing nothing at all when on vacation. Feeding logs into your wood stove, making meals in a kitchen, exercising on the trails with the snowshoes included in your stay - in a way, this is all “work”, it produces things we need. However, it is the type of work that is good for your soul.

It can be hard to relax at home when the to-do list generates itself. I stock the kitchen with stuff you’d want and need to cook meals, I provide games and puzzles and books and magazines. There are multiple trails on site and free snowshoes. You don’t have to go anywhere or do anything, especially not organizing the garage or catching up on housework!
