Join us in Aylesford, Nova Scotia on the last day of summer: the Autumnal Equinox. Together we are saving and savouring the last bits of summer florals and edible plants in this workshop by tasting and experiencing the culinary side to foraging, and learning a new skill with pressing flowers. Chef Fiona Genevieve and Jay from Wreck Cove Cabins are both experienced foragers who are eager to share any tips, tricks, methods and processes to preserving summer plants in various ways. We are both particularly interested in beautiful and tasty beverages made from plants, fungi and seaweed, and are eager to pass on some of our methods and recipes while we taste a few.
Savouring Summer Food & Beverage
Taste a full menu by Chef Fiona of Molotov Cuisine. After attending Fiona’s events and collaborating with her in the past, I can guarantee the dishes will be gorgeous, inspired, and will include foraged and/or fermented ingredients. Her food is colorful, creative, delicious, and particularly interesting if you have a passion for foraging and nature.
Taste a variety of floral or foraged drinks. Lets talk about the plants we are tasting and go over preservation methods: Dehydration, syrups, infused sugars and honeys, hot & cold brews, fermentation, etc. There is so much to discuss.
Saving Summer Flower Pressing
Bring home your own handmade flower press full of late summer florals. Jay is an experienced flower presser who uses pressed plants for various art projects and to keep memories of first time gardens, special occasions, and for nerdy academic reference.
Jay makes the presses large enough to fit regular printer paper, and provides you with the paper and padding layers. You will get all Jay’s pressing secrets and go home with the press, sharp tweezers and printed beginner instructions.
