PLANTS + SEAWEED

LEAD BY SARAH ROBINSON: BIOLOGIST, FORAGER & FOODIE

Learn how to ID and forage for plants and seaweed! You will be guided through a coastal field walk where we will look at and discuss edible seaweeds, while walking through the natural habitat of dozens of coastal plant species with Biologist, Sarah Robinson. You will also be snacking and drinking fun beverages while you learn, with a lunch menu full of interesting wild edibles.

We will meet at Little River Beach at 10:00am, which is less than 10 minutes before Wreck Cove off of the Cabot Trail. We will sip on some bevs and learn about seaweeds, then proceed on our coastal field trip down the beach. I have hosted Sarah for the last 4 years and despite a couple years of droughts, we have had endless stuff to talk about and look at. When we get back from our walk, we will have more plants to talk about while we empty both of our apothecaries of preservations and preparations. Handouts will be given to everyone with more info about seaweed.

Bring your notebook and don’t be afraid to ask many questions throughout! Sarah is an experienced forager-foodie, and I have lots to share about foraging in Cape Breton, wild edible recipes, and foraging tips and etiquette. There will be ample time set aside to pull one of us aside to chat about plant preparations and projects you have going on, if you want to get into specifics. We will likely wrap up between 3:00-4:00pm.
